From the Second Epiftle of PAUL to

HOU therefore, my fon, be ftrong in the grace that is in Chrift Jefus. 2 And the things that thou haft heard of me among many witneffes, the fame commit thou to faithful men, who fhall be able to teach others alfo.

3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good foldier of Jefus Chrift.

4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he

may please him who hath chosen him to be a foldier.

5 And if a man alfo ftrive for mafteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

6 The husbandman that. laboureth, must be first par taker of the fruits.

7 Confider what I fays and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

8 Remember that Jefus Christ, of the feed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gofpel:

Wherein I fuffer trouble

as an evil doer, even unto bonds but the word of God is not bound.

10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's fakes, that they may also obtain the falvation which is in Chrift Jefus, with eternal glory.

II It is a faithful faying: For if we be dead with him, we fhall alfo live with him:

12 If we fuffer, we fhall alfo reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny

13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord, that they ftrive not about words to no profit, but to the fubverting of the hearers, 15 Study to fhew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be afhamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

16 But fhun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodlinefs.

17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymeneus and Philetus;

already; and overthrow the faith of fome.

19. Neverthelefs the foundation of God standeth fure, having this feal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Chrift depart from iniquity.

20 But in a great house there are not only veffels of gold, and of filver, but also of wood, and of earth; and fome to honour, and fome to difhonour.

21 If a man therefore purge himself from thefe, he fhall be a veffel unto honour, fanctified and meet for the mafter's ufe, and prepared unto every good work.

22 Flee alfo youthful lufts: but follow righteoufnefs, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender ftrifes.

24 And the fervant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

25 In meekness inftructing thofe that oppofe themfelves; if God peradventure 18 Who, concerning the will give them repentance truth, have erred, faying, to the acknowledging of the that the refurrection is paft truth;

HIS know alfo, that in the laft days perilous times fhall come.

2 For men fhall be lovers of their own felves, cove tous, boafters, proud, blafphemers, difobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

9 But they fhall proceed no further: for their folly fhall be manifeft unto all men, as their's alfo was.

10 But thou haft fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longfuffering, charity, patience,

II Perfecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lyftra; what perfecutions I endured; but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

12 Yea, and all that will

3 Without natural affec-live godly in Chrift Jefus tion, truce-breakers, falfe fhall fuffer perfecution. accufers, incontinent, fierce, defpifers of thofe that are good,

4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

13 But evil men and feducers fhall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast 5 Having a form of god-learned, and haft been affured linefs, but denying the power of, knowing of whom thou thereof: from fuch turn haft learned them;

6 For of this fort are they which creep into houfes, and lead captive filly women, laden with fins, led away with divers lufts,

7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

8 Now as Jannes, and Jambres withstood Mofes, fo do these also refift the truth; men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

15 And that from a child thou haft known the holy fcriptures, which are able to make thee wife unto salvation, through faith which is in Chrift Jefus.

16 All fcripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for inftruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnifhed unto all good works.

The Epiftle of PAUL to PHILEMON.

AUL, a prisoner of Jefus Chrift, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon, our dearly beloved and fellow-labourer,

2 And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellow-foldier, and to the church in thy house:

3 Grace to you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jefus Christ.

4 I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,

5 Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou haft toward the Lord Jefus, and toward all faints;

and now also a prifoner of Jefus Christ.

10 I beseech thee for my fon Onefimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

II Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and

to me:

12 Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:

13 Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy ftead he might have miniftered unto me in the bonds of the gofpel:

14 But without thy mind 6 That the communica- would I do nothing; that tion of thy faith may become thy benefit should not be as effectual by the acknowledg-it were of neceffity, but wiling of every good thing lingly. which is in you in Christ Jefus.

7 For we have great joy and confolation in thy love, because the bowels of the faints are refreshed by thee, brother.

8 Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Chrift to injoin thee that which is convenient,

9 Yet for love's fake I rather befeech thee, being fuch an one as Paul the aged,

15 For perhaps he therefore departed for a feafon, that thou shouldeft receive him for ever;

16 Not now as a fervant, but above a fervant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?

17 If thou count therefore a partner, receive him as myself.

18 If he hath wronged thee,

thee, or oweth thee ought, I wilt alfo do more than I say.

put that on mine account;

19 I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou oweft unto me even thine ownself befides.

20 Yea, brother let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.

21 Having confidence in thy obedience, I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou

22 But withal prepare me alfo a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.

23 There falute thee Epaphras, my fellow-prisoner in Chrift Jefus ;

24 Marcus, Ariftarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellow labourers.

25 The grace of our Lord Jefus Chrift be with your fpirit. Amen.
