C. B. L. THE PARISH MONTHLY OFFICIAL ORGAN OF THE CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL, 232-238 East 90th Street, New York REVEREND JAMES N. CONNOLLY, Rector This journal is meant to serve as a medium of communication between the priests and the people of the parish. Besides the parochial news, it will contain carefully edited articles that should be of interest to Catholics, and which may be of help to them. It is financed by the contributions of advertisers. We trust this fact will be appreciated by our readers. This month, two years ago, we announced the opening of our Day Nursery, and this month we move into our permanent quarters. The nursery has been located in a store for over a year, and the exposure to the cold and wind of the river front was very trying on our worthy Matron. Miss Anna Murphy. We are sure she will be most happy when she has her young charges comfortably located in their new home. We will shortly announce the day when our people will be invited to visit the nursery. Pew Rent is due to-day. We opened our school this year with an attendance of over 1,000 children. The last day of this month, the Vigil of the Feast of All Saints, will be a fasting day of obligation. On the last Sunday of the month, there will be a Solemn Procession of the children in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary, at the Vesper service, beginning at 4 o'clock. Monday, November 2d, will be All Souls' Day. Envelopes will be distributed in advance to enable all to send in the names of those whom they desire to have remembered in the Masses which will be said on that day. The men who persist like armed sentries, in occupying the outer seat of a pew, moving out into the aisle on the arrival of each new-comer to that pew, or compelling such people to pick their way in. The two people who oblige the priest in giving Communion, to walk the entire width of the Sanctuary, from end to end of the railing, when a little reflection would suggest that the middle of the railing (in such instances) would be more convenient for the priest. The people who rush out from church without waiting for the prayers for the Pope, or remaining, fail to join in these prayers. The people who forget that it is courteous to allow the celebrant to retire from the sanctuary before they begin to leave the church. In all kindness we mention these matters, seemingly trifling, but involving a question of that refinement. which every intelligent Catholic is anxious to manifest. |
