or to 29,443 weeks, or to this with four additional days, or to 564 years and 109 days. We now show that this is equal to the time between the Cyrus decree and the crucifixion. We have shown, most conclusively, that the decree from which the seventy weeks were to be dated, was given in 537, B. C. And Mr. Prideaux says, that the Jews left Babylon, by virtue of this decree, in the month of December. We have also shown that the crucifixion took place on the 25th of March, A. D. 29. Now, from this date, back to the first of December, 537, is 564 years and 116 days, and, as the decree can not go so far back as the first day of December, the number of days can not be so great as 116. Now, the 70 weeks, or 564 years and 109 days, or the 29,443 weeks, carry us back to the first week in December, or, more exactly, to the seventh day of it. That is, it carries us to the going forth" to build Jerusalem, by consequence of the decree. Now, as perfect coincidence of prophecy and events, is infallible proof of fulfillment, and as we have shown such a coincidence between the seventy weeks and events, we have infallibly shown a fulfillment. Now, while we have shown a fulfillment, we have also given it upon the only principles by which one can possibly be shown. And as the fulfillment of the prophecy is proved in other ways, independent of the right interpretation of these weeks, our exposition is confirmed by the fulfillment, and proved to be infallibly true.

2. To the Destruction of Judea.-Having shown that the 70 weeks were equal to 564 years, we now show that they have another signification, and are, by another set of computations, equal to 6033 years, and that they end at the destruction of Judea by the Romans.

FORMULAS.-1. As 49 weeks are an abbreviated year, we may have the following formula:

49: 360-70 weeks equal to 514%. Now, add in Sabbath-day time, and we have 600 years.

2. As 42 weeks are an abbreviated year, they may be equal to 360 days. Then we may have the following formula: As 42: 360×70=600.

3. As 49 weeks may also represent a Hebrew year of 364 parts, we may have the following formula: As 49: 364×70520. Now, adding Sabbath time, we have 6063.

4. As 42 weeks may also represent 364, we may have 42: 364×70=6063.

Having now attained two periods from the 70 weeks, one of 600, and another of 6063 years in length, we are to reduce them to solar time. We here remark, that in computing the weeks which related to the spiritual matter of the crucifixion, we estimated them by years of years, of 364 parts each, but, in turning to civil matters, the use of civil time will be required. The longest year, we have seen, was 366 days. Now, the text gives no intimation as to what kind of a year the 70 weeks were to be realized in; of course, therefore, we are to look to the fulfillment itself, to settle that matter, and in whatever kind it was fulfilled, that, undoubtedly, was the kind intended. The fulfillment will, and must, determine whether the years were to be reduced into solar years or whether they symbolized solar years. With these things premised, we will reduce the 6063 to years of 366 days. They may be considered as years of 364 days, as they stand.

1. Multiply 6063 by 364, divide the product by 366 days, and we have 603 years and 1283 days, or 129 days. A part of a day, with the Jews, was esteemed as a whole

one.

2. A year of years of 364 days each, when reduced to

years of 366 days, amounts to 362 years and 4 days. Then, as the symbolic year, or 360 years, represents any Hebrew year, it will represent 362 years and 4 days. We have then the following formula and result:

360: 362 years 4 days × 600-603 years 129 days. 3. As near as can possibly be ascertained, in addition to the exclusively Sabbath day time, one twelfth of all other time was sacred time, or, in other words, the days of fasts and feasts, which existed in addition to weekly Sabbaths, were also estimated as. Sabbath or rest days. These amounted to just one month. Now, one twelfth of 364 equals 30 days, and in a Sabbatic week there would be 7 times 30 sacred days. This sum would include the difference of 21 days, which exists between the year of 343 and 364 days or years. There would, therefore, in a Sabbatic week be one year and 313 to be added to the secular time; for 343 becomes the divisor and representative year in these computations. We then have the following formula and result:

4

If 7 years, or one week, gives 130 years, then 70 weeks, or 490 years, will give 113. And this sum, added to 490, gives us just 603 years, or 603 years and 122 days. This will be found exceedingly accurate.

4. As 49 weeks represented a year, and as we find 28 days, or four sacred weeks of time in the year, besides the Sabbaths, if we add these to 49 we shall have 53 weeks. Now, as 70 weeks, or 490 years, are 49 weeks multiplied by ten, so multiplying 53 by 10, we shall have 530 years. Now, adding Sabbath time, or one seventh, and we have 6059 years. If now we multiply this by 13, and divide by 366, and subtract the quotient from 605%, we shall again have 603 years and 129 days.

It is difficult to explain the reason for this multiplication satisfactorily, yet it is plainly correct. We know

that 430 was one form of the 70 weeks. Now, if to this we merely add Sabbatic time, or one seventh, we have 4913 years. Now, we know that this is an excess of 1 over the true value of the 70 weeks; and that is about all we know of it. Its conformity to some correct, yet unknown principle, is proved by its conformity to truth.

SECTION VI.

FULFILLMENT SHOWN.

We have seen that the 70 weeks were to be dated on the 6th of December, 537, B. C., and that Judea was overthrown in A. D. 68. On the 14th of Nisan, of that year, the Roman army encamped at Jerusalem, and in seven days afterward they began the siege. Now, from the 6th of December, 537, to 14th of Nisan, A. D. 68. was just 603 years and 122 days; and to the siege it was just a week later, or 603 years and 129 days. Now, as the 70 weeks were also just 603 years 122 days, and 603 years 129 days long, there is the most exact coincidence. that could take place; and, as exact coincidence is infallibly a fulfillment, we have here shown it infallibly.

We may here observe, with reference to this great period of 600 years, that Josephus says it was recognized among the Jews in very ancient times, as the great astronomic years. We give his own words, "God afforded them a longer term of life on account of their virtue, and the good use they made of it in astronomical and geometrical discoveries, which would not have afforded the time for foretelling the periods of the stars, unless they had lived 600 years, for the great year is completed in that interval."

CONCLUSION.

We have shown the principles upon which the seventy weeks were to be interpreted; and, in the application of these principles, we have shown that they exhibited a fulfillment in the most minutely correct manner. The inference is, therefore, inevitable,. that we have discovered the true mode of interpreting the symbolic time nsed by the prophets to measure prophetic ages by. In this discovery it must also be obvious, that we have found the key to unlock the symbolic prophecies of Daniel and John, which Daniel predicted should be made in the time of the end. This discovery will be known and appreciated by the great Israel of Christ, but will not be regarded by European monarchies. We may also observe, that a symbolic day is proved to represent a year, by fulfillment alone, and not by any text of scripture. Also, that the time of year in which prophecy was to be fulfilled, is determined only by fulfillment, and not by any text of scripture whatever.

We also see, that a year of 360 days is a symbolic year, and may represent any kind of Hebrew year.

49

We see, also, that a year of years has a variety of forms. As 70×54=360, and 70×6=420; and 70×71=430; and 70×7=490; and 70×62-480; and 70×73= 520;* and 70×543-4113. Thus are there seven forms into which the seventy weeks can be resolved. The first, or 360 years, is a day year of years; and the highest, or 520 years, or 52×10, is a week year of years, fiftytwo being the number of weeks in a year. From each of all these seven, the same values of the seventy weeks

*As a year consists of 52 weeks, if we divide it by 7 we have 79, which becomes a proper multiplier.
